I gave some stars because he made the effort to recount his story. But I cannot understand why this book is described as well written in any way, shape, or form. It's certainly not written for the reader. There isn't much story to the stories, but the worst of it is that it's almost impossible to read without despairing the state of education in this country if even authors don't know to pick a tense and stay within that tense from one sentence to the next. This author randomly switches tenses midstream. Even worse, he doesn't understand words. Some examples from the first few chapters before I took the book off of my kindle: A doctor calls the helicopter because his friend has a heart attack and when they load the patient and tell the doctor he can't come aboard, "He was understandable". Do you mean you could understand what he was saying? Because that's what that sentence means. I suspect the author meant that "He was understanding" (of the situation). Another example: a guy becomes exasperated but the author doesn't know that word so he says the guy was exacerbated.Good Lord. Between the tense switching and the misuse of words, I actually felt angry because if a writer is going to publish a book, he should at least get well educated people to look it over and edit it- not just his equally clueless buddies. Spend the time to do it right. Read some books about how to write well. Read Strunk and White. Learn the craft of writing. It can be learned.This kind of book is what gives self publishing such a bad name.I think if he cares at all about what has his name on it, he should take the book down, edit it or get a proper editor to edit it - fix the constant switching of tenses, the wrong word usage, and learn how to tell a story in an interesting way. Learn to show, not just lecture. Learn to entertain while educating.Join a writer's group where you learn and critique each other. Go to a writer's conference and take classes.Then put the book back out there.
